Famine Remembrance was commissioned by The Irish Echo Newspaper and The Wild Geese, Inc. to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Great Hunger in Ireland. It received its premiere on March 10, 1996 at St. Patrick's Cathedral, New York, and was recently performed there for a second time by the RTE Orchestra under the baton of John- Michael Caprio. Its mood is sombre, its orchestration sweepingly cinematic, its melodies irresistible.
